Welcome to Artisan In Wood

A self-taught wood turner since 1973, Richard G. Koentz was often told by his high school woodworking teacher to stop bringing in those huge tree trunks to turn on the small lathe available at the school.

His passion for turning has taken him on a life long journey to quench an undying love of creating individual, unique items. Rick originally created one or two items from a pattern. He found those pieces uninspired, lifeless and dull. With his artistic nature coming forth he then started, as he would say, “tweeking” the patterns to create one of a kind masterpieces.

Rick enjoys the idea of creating one of a kind items. He tries to give each work of craftsmanship its own spirit and individual look. He refuses to use any drawn out plan. Rick recently stated in an interview “When I have an idea of what I want to make it turns out totally different than I thought it might at the beginning and usually it turns out better than the original idea.”
